Data Science Laboratory - LaBData

LaBData is a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to collecting, managing and analyzing high-quality data in the production of evidence. Our mission is to promote reliability, reproducibility and transparency in scientific research. We work in collaboration with research projects of master’s and doctoral students, both from the postgraduate program in tropical medicine and from other programs.

Main lines of research:

  • Malaria
  • Accidents caused by venomous animals
  • Arboviruses
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Covid-19
  • Unusual health problems and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases

Group Objectives:

  • Evaluate primary and secondary outcomes of diseases and conditions using databases from public health systems.
  • Promote discussion and practice of the availability and use of open health data.
  • Contribute to excellent academic research in the state of Amazonas through scientific articles published in reputable journals and submission of works at national and international events.

Group Activities:

  • Assessing the quality of health databases, identifying flaws and inconsistencies and providing feedback to health system managers.
  • Collaboration with clinical research groups, participating in the management and analysis of data from studies.
  • Partnership with the DotLab Brasil group, assisting in the processing of health data through artificial intelligence techniques.

  • 3 guiding teachers
  • 6 master’s students
  • 5 doctoral students
  • 2 scientific initiation students

  • 6 volunteers

Available resources:

  • Space: Room of approximately 50m²
  • Chairs: 11 chairs.
  • Television: A television, which is used in presentations, training and short courses.
  • Printer
  • Monitors: 7 monitors that are available in the room helping with data analysis and programming.
  • Notebooks: 9 notebooks in use by employees, in addition to 4 available for volunteers and interns.
  • Router: The router ensures internet connectivity for all devices in the laboratory.
  • Server: with 250 TB available to help manage large databases.
